Trinity garden consists of three parts:
- A food security plot, where various vegetables are grown to supply the food bank, the women’s shelter and to meet individual needs as they arise.
- An orchard is being developed to eventually further serve these institutions as well as provide our church members and community access to orchard fruit.
- Thirdly, we have private plots rented out by individuals interested in growing their own vegetables and flowers.
Trinity garden is a place where people of all ages can share gardening skills and knowledge with each other. It is great to see the number of children coming to the garden to help plant, water, weed and harvest. Not to mention, some just love to dig in dirt and play with the bugs. (adults included here!)
Some of our church youth have planted, weeded, dug, washed and hauled potatoes, carrots and onions to either the food bank or women’s shelter, giving them a chance to be involved in service.
Trinity preschool has a raised box where they have the opportunity to plant, tend and watch things grow. Watering may be what they enjoy the most, and finding those potatoes when they return in the fall! Did I mention, watching bugs?
Garden plots are $20. Currently all spaces are being used but we would like to take the names of those interested in a plot. Please contact the church office by email or phone at 780.464.4040 to leave your name and number. If the situation changes or we are able to expand the garden, we will contact you.
As the gardening season approaches, we will post opportunities to help in the food security plot and orchard. Please feel free to wander through the orchard and pull a weed, there is a picnic table by the garden for everyone’s use.
